Welcoming Summer with Amy

Hey Y'all,
So.. A while back, Amy from Herringbone Hearts hosted a giveaway here on Classy Cathleen. Herringbone Hearts is a stationary type of Etsy shop, and I personally am a HUGE fan of all of Amy's designs! They are beautiful and well made. ANYWAYS, I asked Amy a few questions for an interview.. And I hope y'all enjoy her answers as much as I did!

1. What are you looking forward to this Summer?

A 9-day trip to Hawaii with my boyfriend! He owns a condo there and we do a little work each time we visit. This trip I’m putting the finishing touches on it and I am going to lay on the beach every day and read! I am also looking forward to my birthday in August . . . no big plans for it, probably just a nice quiet dinner. I might try to get to Del Mar racetrack to see the horses once this summer too.

2. What is the weather like on an average day in Summer where you live?

Summer in San Diego . . . June is actually pretty bland and overcast in the morning. They call it “June Gloom.” July and August are much sunnier and warmer. I live by the ocean, so the temperature stays pretty moderate. I’m originally from Upstate New York, and I must admit that I miss thunder and lightning storms and hot, humid nights.

3. What do you think will be “trending” in fashion this Summer?

I’ve been seeing a lot of tropical prints, scalloped hems, tie-dye, and baseball hats. I bought a gorgeous blue and white tie-dye dress by a Hawaiian company called Ava Sky from my favorite boutique in Hawaii the last time I was there in January. I picked up a tropical print skirt randomly at Target a few months ago, and a pineapple tote bag from Forever 21.

4. What is your go to pair of shoes for the upcoming season?

I can’t get enough of my gold metallic flip flops. They’re super simple, and add a little bit of polish to a casual outfit.{link}

5. What are some of the items on your “want list” for this Summer?

I already checked one off my list J Kate Spade’s Structured Silk Mini Dress in Rio Pink. I was looking for a dress to wear to a wedding, and I cried when I tried it on it was so perfect, so I had to get it.{link} I’m in love with the monogram baseball and derby hats from Marley Lilly. I’d also love a pair of perforated flats and a new bikini from KaiKini. But mostly I want an engagement ring J

6. Any hints as to new products or items that your customers can look forward to?

I actually just added a bunch of new stationery sets, and a few new products – personalized stationery storage boxes, office décor, and a stationery club which I’m SUPER excited about! For $10/month, you get four different, new designs delivered to your doorstep before they are listed in my shop! I am offering 3, 6, and 12 month subscriptions.

7. What is your favorite song at the moment?

That’s a tough question. I don’t know if I can pick one song. I usually listen to EDM. I like the dance-y stuff for getting work done and the lounge-ier stuff for relaxing at home with a glass of wine.

8. What is your favorite quote?

I just saw this one on a tote bag ~“Start the day with a smile and finish it with champagne”

9. Do you have any advice for someone trying to start their own company/business?

Just start. Start a blog, start an Etsy shop, just start getting your work out there. It doesn’t have to be perfect. You will learn about yourself, your customer and niche, new techniques, sales and marketing, tech-y stuff, the list goes on and on. If you’re not learning and growing constantly, you’re not doing it right. The shop I opened in October 2013 doesn’t look anything like the shop I have now! I am constantly coming up with new ideas and products. I refer to my Esty shop as my personal MBA. I have a bachelor’s degree in Accounting from a great school, but I feel like I’ve learned more in the 9 months that my shop has been open than I did in four years of college.

10. What do you like to do in your free time?

Health and fitness are very important to me, so I spend a lot of time cooking healthy meals and lifting weights. I love reading business/self-help books, shopping for clothes, and shopping for new craft supplies. Spending time with friends and family is also very important to me. I love lunch and dinner dates.

11. What inspires you?

I love art and fashion. People watching is just endlessly fascinating to me – in person and online.

Happy Summer everyone! Thank you for getting to know me & visiting my shop!

♥ Amy
