Not gonna lie, Thanksgiving is one of my favorite holidays. When I was little, my family and I would load up the family mini van, and drive a few hours to Tennessee. We would stay at my grandmother's house and eat with my dad's side of the family. After the meal, my mom and I would go antique shopping in downtown Bristol. The next day we would venture on over to Greenville and eat with my mom's side of the family. At some point we would head to the racetrack which is covered in Christmas lights and take a drive through. Now, we haven't been to Tennessee in quite a while. Last year, we spent Thanksgiving at Oconee and had barbecue. This year, I'm at Hunting Island and we're buying seafood and visiting a kazoo factory. Thanksgiving has come to be one of my favorites only because we do it so untraditionally.
Anyways, I'm honest with y'all... and I'm kind of out of ideas for the Gal Pal Holiday linkup that I'm hosting with my dear friends Rachel and Cristina. I could give links to recipes that I found on Pinterest, I could link to some diy projects, products I need to get through the Thanksgiving holiday, I don't know. I'm not gonna write a fake post and dress all my family up just to take some pictures and look like we're your typical traditional American family. I'm not feeling the fake vibe. So I'm gonna be real.
Here's why I love Thanksgiving:
Our Christmas tree is already up - most families put their trees up after Thanksgiving, as my readers know mine goes up at Halloween. So, instead of spending the day decorating, I get to look at the finished product.
I don't have to spend all day in the kitchen - I love cooking but I have to be in the mood for it. Other families need all hands on deck working and getting the big meal together. But since our meal isn't as big.. and no turkey, gravy, cranberry sauce, pie... I don't have to work with food all day and I can eat and enjoy the entire day.
Awkward family moments - Because I'm spending Thanksgiving with my actual family and not extendeds, I don't have to deal with those awkward and uncomfortable situations.
I'm at the beach - Hunting Island is located in Beaufort, SC and it's absolutely beautiful. Insanely cold, but absolutely beautiful. The cabin is right next to a LIGHT HOUSE, and I'm having a wonderful time. Follow my instagram to keep up with my adventures
I don't have to dress up for anyone but myself - My parents don't care if I wear sweats, a dress, jeans and a t-shirt for Thanksgiving. I don't have to impress anyone which is such a blessing.
I can spend time being thankful for what I'm truly thankful for with people that I'm thankful for as well. This makes Thanksgiving a stress free comfortable holiday, and it feels wonderful.
